Yet another new event! Book Launch Extravaganza for The Prince Who Fell From the Sky by John Claude Bemis

Posted on 2012-05-16 at 21:1 by montsamu
Hillsborough author John Claude Bemis wrote to let me know that:
I'm thrilled to share that my new book The Prince Who Fell from the Sky comes out May 22!  I am thankful that it is already being well-received. Amazon picked it as a Best Book of the Month for May (you can pre-order it 40% off, or get it at your local indy bookstore or Barnes and Noble).
I hope you'll be able to join me for my book launch party.  Lots of fun for the whole family with music, a book performance by my young acting troupe

New local event (and flyer): Chapel Hill Comics to host signing for the collected Eisner-nominated PRINCELESS, with writer Jeremy Whitley.

Posted on 2012-05-10 at 23:56 by montsamu

The collected Princeless was originally set for the end of April but was delayed due to printing delays, meaning the planned event also had to be delayed. I'm happy to report that, at least sometimes, delays do not necessarily mean cancellations, as Chapel Hill Comics is set to host a signing event for collected Eisner-nominated comic Princeless with writer Jeremy Whitley on Saturday May 26 from 1 to 3 pm:

Also: I added this (NEW-NEW) to the Bull Spec events newsletter, and here's a slightly updated flye

New local event: Flyleaf Books to host Kevin Hearne, author of The Iron Druid Chronicles

Posted on 2012-05-05 at 0:10 by montsamu

Pretty much every time I send out the monthly events newsletter, the first thing that happens is that I get e-mails about the events I've missed. While I can update them on the website (search for NEW-NEW to find things added after the e-mails go out), sometimes the events warrant a post of their own -- and this is just such an event.

Kevin Hearne is the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles series (HoundedHexed, Hammered, and just-released Tricked) which tell the story of Atticus O’Sullivan, the titular

Bull Spec newsletter for May 2012

Posted on 2012-05-03 at 4:26 by montsamu

Vol 2. No. 4, Wednesday, May 2, 2012:

Thanks everybody for making the April 15 NC Speculative Fiction Night such a (crowded!) success at Durham's Sci-Fi Genre Comics & Games, including making short work of the 7-candled cake. I've got most of the bookstores stocked with Bull Spec #7, though a few of the further-out stores are yet to come later this week, along with (finally) the PDF version, subscriber mailings and deliveries, contributor mailings and deliveries, more review copies... I did get a few

Bull Spec local events e-mailing list: November 2011

Posted on 2011-11-02 at 21:26 by montsamu

Vol. 1, No. 6, November 1, 2011:

Welcome to the November events and announcements newsletter from Bull Spec! This time, a bit late instead of early. But there's plenty to talk about this month, starting with NC Comicon this weekend and continuing through author events, new books, and more author events in November and December. A couple of things which I'd hoped to have ready for this newsletter but aren't quite there are: 1. the second Bull Spec teen writing contest will begin soon 2. I will get a local

Quail Ridge Books gets ready for a run of events.

Posted on 2011-10-30 at 20:57 by montsamu

The November events newsletter is just about ready, but I wanted to give a little bit of space to Quail Ridge Books this evening, as they're hosting a run of sf events in November and into December.

First up is a recently-added event for L.E. Modesitt, Jr.'s SCHOLAR on Wednesday, November 9 at 7:30 pm:

Then, while Doc does not fall under the rubric of speculative fiction, Mary Doria Russell, author of the spectacular science fiction novel The Sparrow, is reading on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 pm:

Some 'new-new' updates to the newsletter and some other fun bits.

Posted on 2011-10-06 at 1:57 by montsamu

One of the first things which always happens when I send out the monthly events newsletter is: I immediately learn of several things coming up which I didn't include in the newsletter. For the events, I did go back and add them to the October newsletter -- search for "NEW-NEW".

OCTOBER

7 (Friday), 7 pm: Hillsborough author John Claude Bemis reads from The White City, the last book in his The Clockwork Dark trilogy from Random House Books for Young Readers, at The Regulator Bookshop: http://www

NC Comicon signing series: new event added!

Posted on 2011-08-01 at 19:2 by montsamu

I didn't know about this one in time to make the August e-newsletter, but there's going to be an absolutely great lineup of local comics creators (artists and writers galore!) toward the end of the month at Ultimate Comics:

Local Creator Spotlight!

August 27 Ultimate Comics welcomes a heap of local comics creators to showcase their work and talent. This event will take place at Ultimate Comics Farrington Rd. location from 11am-5pm. The proceeds from this event will go directly toward the NC Comicon Guest Fund

It's going to be quite a Saturday!

Posted on 2011-07-26 at 19:49 by montsamu

To quote George Takei, "Oh my!" It's going to be quite a Saturday.

First up is the Sci-Fi Genre 5th anniversary party, with cake -- no lie, there will be cake -- games, fun, and the opening of the all-new local authors section. SFG is opening its shelves (and global shipping) to local authors, and they've been great supporters of Bull Spec since even before their issue #1 interview. This starts at 10a and runs "all day long", though there is a short ceremony at 2p. Still, you won't be staying there all day
