Friday, August 12, 2016: As promised there isn't a newsletter coming this month, but that certainly isn't to say there isn't a lot of news to pass along. So! Here we go, starting with a "new-new" event tonight in Greensboro that a lot of Triangle (and beyond) folks are excited about:

At 7 pm, Greensboro’s Scuppernong Books (304 S Elm St) hosts Edmund R. Schubert for a reading and signing of his new science fiction collection This Giant Leap. Published earlier this year by Charlotte's Falstaff Books (John

Friday, July 15, 2016: It's going to be a fantastic weekend in High Point, so whether you're driving or taking the train (it's less than a block walk from the station to the hotel!), travel safe on your way to ConGregate! But before I go on (at length!) about ConGregate, there are also a few things happening in and around the Triangle this weekend, so I'll get started with those:

Friday, May 27, 2016: We are definitely in the early summertime here in the Carolinas, and all of a sudden the event calendar is starting to fill up a bit, starting with Animazement 2016 at the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend, with plenty of costumes and a huge dealer room packed with all kinds of everything, and what is setting up to be another fantastic ConCarolinas in Concord next weekend (June 3-5), there's also quite a few "new-new" events since the May newsletter went out; I won't try to

Friday Quick Updates: book deals, new books and audiobooks, and new and upcoming events including a 5-author YA panel on Monday!

Posted on 2016-02-20 at 4:55 by montsamu

Friday, February 19, 2016: Well, it's been a couple of weeks since the newsletter went out, yet somehow I don't have a huge pile of corrections and missed items to pass along. I do have some "new new" things, and I'll start with a pair of fantastic pieces of news:

  • NC State graduate and Baen Books editorial assistant Christopher Ruochhio Tweeted his Publisher's Marketplace announcement of a "very nice" 4-book deal, his first, with Betsy Wollheim of DAW Books, for a new science fiction series to begin with

Friday, September 11, 2015: As of this writing, there are 23 days left (October 5) to nominate F. Hampton Carmine's Kindle Scout submission of Destiny's Handmaiden for publication: "Their birth began a time of endings and beginnings in Destiny's prophesy for The Dragon Isles. Many would become her tools, all would be transformed, but none more than Aislin. She suckled at the same breast, crawled and walked in the same nursery, studied with the same tutors, and felt like a twin. Languages, academics, courtly

Friday Quick Updates: Upcoming events and NC author news

Posted on 2015-08-21 at 20:36 by montsamu

Friday, August 21, 2015: While many eyes (and authors and fans) from the Triangle have turned to Sasquan, there are things to do and talk about here at home as well. To change things up this week, I'll start with two crowd-driven campaigns with NC ties:

Eastern NC author David Niall Wilson has entered his unpublished urban superhero novel Hoods into The Nerdist Collection Contest at Inkshares. Not exactly a "crowd-funding" campaign in the sense of Kickstarter or Indiegogo, Inkshares is a "crowd-driven

Friday Quick Updates, Thursday edition: A weekend of Swanwick ahead, but first: Noir at the Bar, Valerie Nieman, and award and crowdfunding news

Posted on 2015-08-13 at 20:42 by montsamu

Thursday, August 13, 2015: I really should have done this yesterday so as to include the John Scalzi reading at Quail Ridge Books, but if I had, the standing-room-only crowd as pictured by Monica Byrne may well have been out the door, and Jay Posey's Twitter quip about the length of the signing line may well have been a truth stranger than fiction. So instead, it's a Thursday edition of "Friday Quick Updates", to remind folks of not one but two fantastic events tonight, ahead of an extended weekend which

  • June 13 (Saturday) 11 am to 2 pm -- Raleigh's Event Horizon Games hosts a multi-author book signing event for Garner-based publisher Red Adept along with publisher Lynn McNamee. Among those appearing will be local author Karissa
